Fiber & Fabric Protection
Help Carpet and Furniture to Last Longer!
Buddy's Carpet Care Offers Fiber and Fabric protection that compliments our cleaning program.
This application assures you of the best possible protection against soiling and stains. Our fiber & fabric protection has two protective properties. One - an acid dye blocker that is basically a clear dye that fills the extra dye sites in a fiber. This helps to prevent "foreign" dyes (such as a red colored beverage) from penetrating the carpet fiber. The second property is called a "fluorochemical". It is commonly known as 3M Scotchgard or Dupont Teflon. This treatment helps prevent spillage from actually getting to the acid dye blocker, but its biggest job is to resist dry soil. By resisting dry soil, less soil bonds to the carpet, therefore, more soil is being extracted by your vacuum. Making sure that you have a sufficient amount of protector on your carpet will help keep the soil from bonding to the carpet. Once soil bonds to your carpet, it acts like sandpaper on your traffic areas. When your carpet fibers are scratched and lose their twist there is no way to bring them back to their original conditions.
Fabric Protection can be applied to almost any type of furniture. Buddy's Carpet Care uses a fabric protector that has a solvent-based carrying agent that will not water mark fine fabrics. Proper application and drying of fabric protection will help the homeowner maintain furniture with ease.
Many homeowners ask us "How is a protector removed from a carpet?"
There are two primary ways that protector is removed from carpet.
- Regular foot traffic. Over a period of 6 months to 2 years, depending on your situation, a significant amount of protector can be removed from your traffic areas. The protector then needs to be reapplied.
- High alkaline cleaner. Uneducated, uniformed and sometimes unscrupulous carpet cleaners use harsh chemicals on the carpet that will strip its protection. If one of these rascals has been in your house, you may want to have the carpet re-protected.
Four Mistakes Other Cleaners Make In Applying Protector
- Not using high quality protector. Discount protectors are not as effective and may void the carpet warranty. Buddy's Carpet Care uses only the highest quality protectors.
- Not using a dedicated container. Using the same container for protector and a cleaning agent could contaminate the carpet protector making it sticky and ineffective. We use a container dedicated to fabric protector only.
- Not applying the protector properly. Some cleaners over or under apply the protector. Buddy's trains our technicians to pre-measure the exact amount needed for the square footage protected.
- Not grooming the carpet. The protector should be groomed into the carpet for the most effective results. This ensures contact with all surfaces of the carpet yarn, proper distribution and drying. Buddy's thoroughly grooms the protector into the carpet pile.
Six Reasons You Should Always Use Carpet Protector
- Reduces permanent stains. Unprotected carpet does not repel spillage as well as protected carpet. Protector will help you avoid permanent staining by allowing you to remove spots and spills more effectively.
- Helps keep your traffic area from looking worn. Traffic area soil is very abrasive and can cut carpet fibers like a knife. Soil can easily bond to an unprotected carpet. By applying protector you will dramatically increase the life of your carpet. When a protected carpet is vacuumed the soil will release from the fibers much more efficiently.
- Makes spots easier to remove. Many spots can be removed easily with just water. The easier a spot is to remove the less cleaner, agitation and time it will take to remove it.
- Makes your next professional cleaning more effective. Having protector applied to your carpet will enhance your next cleaning and more soil can be removed.
- Helps avoid costly service calls. Carpet protector helps you remove spots more frequently and effectively.
- Your carpet will look better and last longer when it is properly protected.

Our fabric protection treatment is a spray that is applied to all surfaces of an upholstered item. The treatment "wicks" into the fibers of the fabric creating a protective barrier against soil and stains.
