Spot Removal Tips between Professional Cleanings
- The first step in spot removal is to eliminate excess spot causing materials.
a. To remove a thick substance, such as peanut butter -use a spoon or dull knife to scrape up the excess.
b. Remove excess liquid: blot with a dry absorbent towel or a wet/dry vacuum. Do not scrub as hard or use a brushing action which may cause the substance to penetrate deeper into the carpet or enlarge the area being treated, permanently distorting the fibers.
2. Use the professional spotting bottle left with you by Buddy’s Carpet Care.
a. Use directly from the bottle or in a trigger spray bottle. This very mild solution should not cause any problems with the carpet and can be used to loosen and suspend the spot causing the material.
b. Remove the loosened material and detergent by blotting. -Repeat the wetting and blotting procedures until the area is clean or until no more spot causing material can be removed.
3. Fill a second trigger spray bottle with clear water:
a. Spray clear water generously to rinse the area
b. Spray and blot the area with more dry towels until the residue and suds are no longer apparent.
4. To avoid “reoccuring spots”:
a. Place a terry towel or other absorbent carpet cleaning compound over the treated area.
> if wicking occurs during drying, the towel may help absorb the spot causing material.
5. Some dry spills, like copier toner:
a. Use a dry vacuum
b. Contact a professional IICRC certified carpet cleaner.
6. Heavier spills like oils and greases:
a. These are far more difficult to remove and are probably better refereed to highly trained IICRC professionals.
